Audio professionals can now improve their work a lot faster if they use ABCD as a comparative listening and metering tool!
ABCD also acts as a monitor controller, since the loudness of anything you monitor is automatically normalized to stay the same for all audio. ABCD is not a plug-in but rather software that connects to any DAW using custom virtual cables. It will not interfere with your processing path by setting up a parallel monitoring path. You will only need to set up your comfort volume once, and ABCD will keep the loudness constant for better judgment and comparative listening of up to 4 sources of audio.
METERING SECTIONThe top meter always shows the A or AFTER signal, it is the post-processing signal sent from your DAW using a supplied virtual cable plug-in. The bottom meter shows the last selected secondary source B,C or D. Metering includes TruePeak, Momentary and Integrated Loudness, RMS and Crest in addition to Correlation. At the very top of this section you will find access to the Settings, Manual, Presets and a Meter Reset button. Presets include useful metering and target levels for EBU and ITU broadcast, vinyl cutting, optical media, as well as for file-players or streaming services like iTunes, Youtube and Spotify.
MONITORING MODE SECTIONUseful monitoring of left or right in mono or through a single speaker, as well as mid- and side channel monitoring and channel swap can be selected here followed by customizable Dim and Mute for the outputs. This is also where you make the Audio connection to your DAW of choice. Optional Soft-limiter and/or -6/-12dB attenuation can be set to prevent clipping if needed.
VST-STACK SECTIONThis is were you can choose additional VST plug-ins to be inserted either into the A or AFTER path only or globally to the currently selected source (ABCD). This allows additional metering, your favourite limiter or codec listening tools to be inserted for example. This is for monitoring only as it will not interfere with your DAWs processing path. These plug-ins can be switched into the audio path individually or just have their inputs fed for metering only. The stack can be globally bypassed (off).
A- and B-WIRE MONITOR SELECT SECTIONThis is where the signals A or AFTER and the pre-processing signal B or BEFORE form the virtual cables can be selected for monitoring. The MATCH LOUDNESS button will adjust the output loudness of all 4 sources to the selected target loudness (Settings/Preset). Above each source select button there is a monitor-level Offset display showing the adjusted loudness from its actual input level in dB. + and – controls allow for manual adjustment of the loudness offset to a customizable step size as small as 0.1dB if needed. The offsets can be globally switched off to return to the actual signal levels without loudness match. The SYNC button will compensate any potential latency introduced by plug-ins between sources A and B. The top center display shows how many virtual cables are connected to ABCD and the sample rate it is syncing to.
C- and D-PLAYER MONITOR SELECT SECTIONC or COMPARE and D or DONE are file-players that can accommodate 2 further sources to compare your work to. COMPARE could be any reference for your project and DONE the preceding/finished track of an album for example. These sources will also be loudness matched to the selected target loudness. For each player you can create up to 5 loops by highlighting the desired region in the waveform displays at the bottom. An optional sample rate converter will convert any file to the current sample rate.
